Have you ever heard of the 4 Daemun and the 4 Somun?
There are 6 Daemuns (Gates of Palaces) in Seoul right now!
Before reading this post, notice that Dong, Seo, Nam, Buk means
East, West, South, North in Korean.

The 4 Daemun in Seoul means Dongdaemun, Seodaemun, Namdaemun, Bukdaemun!
Those are called in two names one another
Dongdaemun (Heunginjimun), Seodaemun (Doneuimun),
Namdaemun (Soongraemun), Bukdaemun (Sukjeongmun)
Unfortunately Seodaemun (Doneuimun) no longer exist among the muns for now!

Korea's Treasure No.1 is Dongdaemun which is also called Heunginjimun
which shows enormously constructed long time ago to protect our territory from the enemies!

Seodaemun which is also called Doneuimun is removed in 1915,
so it is the only one not existing in this era!

Korea's National Treasure No. 1, Namdaemun which is also called Soongraemun!
It was declared as "National Treasure No. 1" in 1962, and
It was the oldest traditional architectural heritage in Seoul!
However, it was burned down in 2008 because of one careless person,
many parts of Namdaemun was destroyed.
We started to reconstruct it in 2010 ,and we restored it to its former condition in 2013!

Bukdaemun which is also called Sukjeongmun is the 10th Historical Landmark in Seoul!
It was closed its gate in 1413, and people planted some pine trees to block the gate.
Long time ago, people opened its gate when they have a drought ,and
they closed the gate when it rained a lot!
How wonderful 4 Daemuns (large gates) in Seoul!
