<Changgyeonggung Palace>





Our fourth royal palace, as well as Korea's 123rd historical landmark is Changgyeonggung palace.

Changgyeonggung palace was built in 1483. Originally, it had around 2000 buildings, but most of them were destroyed over the course of history. Changgyeonggung can be said to have faced the most hardships compared to the other royal palaces.


Also, Changgeyonggung was devised into a zoo and botanical garden during Japanese colonial era in Korea.

During this time many buildings were destroyed and it was given a new name as Changgyeong garden.

Therefore, where Changgyeonggung stand now used to be Korea's first zoo.

This is Okcheon bridge that leads to Changgyeonggung's main hall, Myeongjeongjeon.

If you go through this Myeongjeong gate,

you will arrive here, at Myeongjeongjeon hall.

Myeongjeongjeon is the oldest main hall out of all royal palaces of Korea.

It has been designated as Korea's 226th national treasure.

This is Sungmundang, where the King and scholars held discussions and meetings related to academics.

This is Gyeongchunjeon, which is the inner court of Changgyeonggung palace.

King Jeongjo and Heonjong were born here and many queens have passed away here as well.

This is a picture of "Yeongjo Eoyeollye". It is a reproduction of king Yeongjo's 50th birthday ceremony.

It is held every Sunday at Changgyeonggung.





Just like all the other royal palaces, hanbok wearers have free entrance.

So, please visit Raon to get your own hanbok! :)




Changgyeonggung palace's opening hours are as follows.

Feb~May, Sep~Oct 09:00~18:00

Jun~Aug 09:00~18:30

Nov~Jan 09:00~17:30

Tickets close an hour before closing hours.

Closed every Monday.



Entrance fees are as follows.

Adults (19~64yrs) 1000

7~18yrs 500
